Week 6

What I learned this week.   In the lab this week, I learned about flower dissection. Learned that there are female parts and male parts. The female parts are the stigma and ovary, and the male parts are the anther and filament. I also learned about cross-pollination. This is when a bee takes pollen from one flower and transfers it to another flower. I learned this during our activity in the lab, where we stabbed the bee and used the dead bee to pollinate our fast-growing plants. I learned that this activity that we did will eventually help our plant grow even bigger.  What would you bring to your future teachings? I will definitely do an activity like the pollination one we did in the lab when I am a future teacher. I don't think I am going to use the dead bees in the activity because I think that might scare elementary school students. I think if I did this lesson, I would use the pollination sticks that were shown in the video we watched during the lab. I thought the id...

What did you learn this week?  This week, I learned about the food chains and the food webs. I also learned about the different biomes that are represented around the world. I learned that the different biomes are Forest, Desert, Marine, Freshwater, Tundra, and Grassland. These biomes have many differences but also some similarities. I learned that in each biome, there are many food chains and food webs.  Can you relate to what you learned with what you already knew?  I taught an online lesson about predators and prey and food chains for my zoom lesson assignment in the teaching and learning technologies class last semester. Since making this lesson I was able to relate to the basic content I was teaching in the zoom lesson with this class. The lesson I made was very minimal information because it was made for young elementary students but it was nice to know the very basic information for what we are learning now.  How can you apply what you've learned to you...

What did you learn this week?  Something that I learned this week is the 5E instructional model. I learned that the 5Es are Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. These can all make the best instruction for a lesson. I learned that they do not need to be in that specific order, but you can change it to what works best for you and what works best for your class. For example, some people might start with the introduction, then explain the material, then do an activity, and later evaluate what they have learned. For me, I would start with an introduction, then do an activity, then explain what they just learned through the activity, further explain the activity, and bring it all together with an evaluation.  How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? In the future, I plan to use the 5E instructional model while building my lesson plan for my students. I will remember that I do not need to do the lesson in order according to the 5E instructio...

Week 3 reflection

What did you learn this week?  This week, I learned about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and a mealworm. I learned that the life cycle of the mealworm and the monarch butterfly is very similar, but they also have different steps in the cycle as well. The main difference between these two life cycles is the pupa stage. The butterfly goes through the chrysalis stage, and the mealworm is just in the pupa stage.  Are you able to relate to what you learned with what you already knew? I remember in preschool, we learned very basic information about the monarch butterfly life cycle, so while we were learning about it today, I made some connections to what I learned a long time ago. I knew that the butterfly went from egg to caterpillar to butterfly, but I did not know the Pupa phase was called the chrysalis stage, which was very interesting to learn.  How can you apply what you learned to your teaching in the future?  I think that the activity we did in clas...
