Week 12: Climate Change
What did you learn in the lab section?
- In our lab section this week, we talked about what we want to know about climate change, and we said we want to talk about what changes we can make to help save our earth and how big corporations affect climate change a lot more than a singular person does. After our talk about climate change, we looked directly at how Iowa has been affected throughout many years, and we looked specifically at days with precipitation above and below the threshold. My table focused on the southern part of Iowa, where the University of Iowa is, and we picked Central City, Clinton, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to look further into. We found out that the precipitation has increased by 34.8%. Lastly, we talked about how the goldfinches of Iowa are in danger because of the humidity and increase of precipitation.
What did you learn in the discussion?
-We had an exam this week.
What did you learn in the press book readings?
I learned in the press book readings about the effects of climate change on Iowa as a state. One effect is that higher temperatures can increase agricultural pests. It also affects if farmers can harvest their crops and when they can if they are able to. Also, with higher temperatures, there are going to be more days in the year that have 90 degrees, which can be harmful to the people, animals, and plants that are growing in the area.
What do you need more information on in the press book readings?
-I am confused why it will rain more with the climate change increasing the temperature in Iowa and why would it get more dry for states that have a more dry climate to start.
Questions that I have?
- How accurate are the predictions that scientists make for the future with climate change increasing.
