Week 14

What did you learn in this week's activity?  We talked about the different ways to change a lesson to fit all groups that would be in a classroom. The various groups can be the average and middle section of the students who would ideally learn the curriculum the teacher has set. Then, two other groups would have to have modifications. The higher-end group might need changes to the lesson because they will finish the worksheets or activities quickly and would need more time to spend on them. The other group at the arch's lower end would require modifications to help them speed up their work. For example, this group might have more difficulty reading, so they would need pictures that can help get them to the next step faster. Ultimately, these modifications would keep all students at similar paces.  How would you use what you learned in your future teachings?  I would definitely be doing those modifications to make sure all my students are learning at the levels they...

What did you learn this week? - This week in our lab section, we learned how the particle theory of matter can support elementary students in learning about matter and its interactions. We talked about how we can build models that help us provide evidence to support our claims about a specific concept. We also learned that when you make models, you have to think about if you are making them to show how things look or why they are the way they are. When you are trying to figure out why you are making the model the way you are, there are many different things to think about.  How can you apply what you learned to your future teachings?  -The way we talked about how to find data that will support a specific claim is how I will teach my students because it was apparent how we discussed it in class. I would definitely do the M&M activity in my future class because it will be fun for the students and can be modified to be more difficult or less complicated, depending on w...

What did you learn this week?  - This week, in our lab section, we continued to talk about observations. We looked at our observations last week when we did the Skittles or Starburst activity. Looking at those observations, we made data sheets for a specific grade that we would want to teach. We learned how we can effectively make those data sheets for our students. We also talked about how we can become above-average teachers. We learned that clarity, opportunity cost, and time and practice are great focuses on becoming an above-average teacher. How can you apply what you've learned to your future teaching?  - What I learned about being an above-average teacher is something that I will take with me in my future teachings. I plan to continue trying my best to be more than an average teacher. I will probably start out as an average teacher, but after my first couple of years of teaching, I plan to teach more with purpose and make it fun and exciting for my students....

What did you learn this week?  - This week in our lab section, I learned the importance of observation in an elementary science classroom. We were learning how to write down proper observations using the five senses in our candy activity. We talked about how when you make observations, it isn't best if you just make the observations and then not explain or ask any questions afterward. It is a full-on observation if you make the observation and then explain why you made that observation, and then ask questions that you can later answer with further observations.  How can you apply what you learned to teaching in the future?  - The activity we did in class was a great way to show the different observation methods. I would use this activity in a future class that I teach. I would change the activity slightly to make it less messy for elementary schoolers. I would have them use less water or a deeper plate for them to put in so there is no room for spillage. I would al...
